The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The Big Springs Gap
to Cheat River stretch of Otter Creek in Tucker County is 2.6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV section of whitewater. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came.
Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike along the Green Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity, and if the weather is wonderful, you can go for a hike along the Big Springs Gap Trail. Through the days of summer highs here at Otter Creek reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it
drops down to the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are typically in the 30's while Otter Creek overnight low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 10's. Otter Creek ordinarily gets a great deal of rain; most of the rain falls during July, and February is the month with the least moisture.
