If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside West Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find     lots of paddling places. The wonderful Fayette County scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Laurel Grove Church to Mossy stretch of Paint Creek in Fayette County is 4.6 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: A good deal of rainfall falls at Paint Creek; July is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest of the months is January. High temperatures at Paint Creek through the days of summer are in the 80's; throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 60's.
