West Virginia whitewater - Paint Creek, Fayette County Fayette county, Mossy to Westerly section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III+     4.1 miles   The Mossy to Westerly stretch of Paint Creek in Fayette County is 4.1 miles long and is a class II-III+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Fayette County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve     in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The starting location is a short drive from Beckley, as you can see on the road map further down. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Through the warm days of summer highs here at Paint Creek get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's   overnight here at Paint Creek. Big Hollow is right next door to Paint Creek and is a pleasant place. A great deal of rain falls at Paint Creek; during July this area sees the most rain, and October meanwhile is the driest month.
