West Virginia whitewater - Paint Creek, Fayette County Fayette county, Mossy to Westerly section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III+     4.1 miles   If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside West Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Beckley, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might     have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. The natural beauty of Fayette County and the water flowing gracefully down Paint Creek attract people from near and far. Briefly about the general area: Big Hollow is a splendid place to explore. For the period of the summertime months at Paint Creek temperatures are regularly in the 80's while night lows are frequently in the 60's. Throughout the wintertime highs are mostly in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows   in the 20's to Paint Creek. The high level of rain makes Paint Creek a rather wet spot; the month with most of the rain is July, and the driest month is October.
