West Virginia whitewater - Paint Creek, Fayette County Fayette county, Mossy to Westerly section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III+     4.1 miles   The Mossy to Westerly stretch of Paint Creek is 4.1 miles long and is a class II-III+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're coming from Beckley it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. For all you     camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The natural beauty of Fayette County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Mossy to Westerly section is one of them. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. Briefly about the general area: At Paint Creek all through the summer months highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are mostly in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Paint Creek. Paint Creek gets lots of water; the wettest month of the year is usually July, that's the one that rains the most, and October is the month with the least moisture.
