The Westerly to Burnwell stretch of Paint Creek is 6.4 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Fayette/ Kanawha County and the water flowing gracefully down Paint Creek make the trip here worthwhile. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. The campgrounds here at Paint Creek are pretty good. This is one of a small     number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Paint Creek through the warmest time of the year are in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 60's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 40's with temperatures at Paint Creek dipping down into the 20's all through winter nights.
