The starting location is a short drive from Cumberland, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The natural beauty of Grant County and the water flowing gracefully down Patterson Creek - North Fork will make you feel great. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The Scherr to Dam stretch of Patterson Creek - North Fork in Grant County is 8.2 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,
either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep
in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is the only paddling section along Patterson Creek - North Fork. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
