The natural beauty of West Virginia and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Oak Hill, as you can see on the road map further down. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far
and near. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. There's camping available near Peters Creek. The County 22 bridge to mouth section is the only paddling section along Peters Creek. This is a bit of
a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: You simply ought to stop by Koontz Bend since you're here at Peters Creek, and a journey to Lower Mash Rapids will fill your
soul with good feelings. At Peters Creek during the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Peters Creek. This river is
so perfect. Near Peters Creek you come across the Way Back Trail which is a good hiking trail, and the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Koontz Flume Rapids. Peters Creek generally gets a great deal of rainfall; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
