The starting location is a reasonable drive from Oak Hill, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Nicholas County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking
outside West Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this
area has a large number of paddling places. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. This is the only paddling stretch along Peters Creek. This section of Peters Creek in Nicholas County is 2.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III+(V+)
section of whitewater.
