The nature scenery of West Virginia and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. This section of Piney Creek is 12 miles long and it is classified as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. The Beckley to McCreery section is the only paddling section along Piney Creek. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why
not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming
from far and near. If you're coming from Beckley it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The campgrounds here at Piney Creek are pretty good.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Piney Creek through the long summer days are in the 80's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in
the 30's; overnight lows at Piney Creek all through the winter usually drop into the 10's. Cyclone Hollow is in the neighborhood of Piney Creek and is beyond doubt a good site to go to. Piney Creek typically gets a good deal of rain; the month with most of the rain is July, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
