The put-in is not too far from Hagerstown-Martinsburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The beautiful scenery of Jefferson WV Washington MD County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Potomac River is 2.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as
a class II+ section. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Harpers Ferry - Dam #3 to Route 340 section is one of them. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better
be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: Barr Spring is always fun to check out, and some interesting geology is available here, Jefferson Rock is right here. If time allows, Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail is a
national park worth going to; there are tremendous sites to look at along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. A short spree to The Staircase is always worthwhile; a great spot to pop by close by is Loudoun Valley. The annual rainfall here at Potomac River is about average;
May is the month that gets the most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. This river is a great place to visit. Going for a hike on the Loudoun Heights Trail is always a good adventure, and The Point is close at hand and always good to take a look at. Any
time is a tremendous time at Potomac River if you fancy the outdoors. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Potomac River with night lows in the 60's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 30's, and night lows in the 20's for Potomac River.
