- Dam #3 to Route 340 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that.
Briefly about the general area: An average amount of precipitation falls at Potomac River; most of the rain falls throughout May, and the driest month of the year is January. A visit to Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail is worthwhile, and Barr Spring is an inspiring place to stop by while you're here.
Good hiking is available along the Loudoun Heights Trail, and don't leave Potomac River without first paying a visit to The Staircase. Summer at Potomac River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. High temperatures all through
