The scenic beauty of West Virginia and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Cumberland, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Potomac River - North Branch in West Virginia is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is quite short so you'll have
to walk back to the start over and over. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There are so many stretches to paddle
in this river system, the Kitzmiller to Jennings Randolph Lake stretch is just one of many. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding.
