The Bloomington to Keyser section of Potomac River - North Branch is 7.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Cumberland, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Bloomington to Keyser section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Getting
your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia tend to be more forgiving than
the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
