If you're coming from Harrisonburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty of West Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more     forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Milam bridge to confluence of Shooks Run section is just one of them. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: A short tour to White Cloud Spring is always worthwhile, and a trip to Potomac River -   South Fork of the South Branch wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Dumpling Run Spring.
