The Red Creek Recreation Area to North Branch Bridge section of Red Creek in Tucker County is 7.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+ section. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit
of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The natural beauty of Tucker County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come
here to paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
Briefly about the general area: Red Creek is a wet location that gets a large amount of rainfall; July is when you get the most rain here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Coming to this river is always a good idea. The warmest time of the year at Red Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in
the 30's while the cold winter nights at Red Creek are in the 10's. A tour to Hoyt Pennington Spring will fill your spirit with wonderful feelings, and everyone nearby loves skiing at Timberline. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Red Creek; Dunkenbarger Trail is a perfect local trail, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Red Creek Trail.
