Tucker
county,
Ford at FS 13 road to confluence of Dry Fork section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V+ 4 miles
The natural beauty of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This stretch of Red Run in Tucker County is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. There are no other sections to paddle along Red Run than the Ford at FS 13 road to confluence of Dry Fork section. There are campgrounds quite near
the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels
fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
Briefly about the general area: Near Red Run you hit upon the Limerock Trail which is a great hiking trail. Red Run sees pretty high levels of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is July, and the driest of the months is February. During the months of summer at Red Run highs are ordinarily in the 80's with night lows in the 50's. Throughout the
winter highs are frequently in the 30's; night lows at Red Run through the winter mostly dip into the 10's. It's always brilliant to check out Lester Falnagan Spring, and the Mountain Side Trail is a good hiking trail nearby.
