The County Road 3-12 to Cheat River section of Roaring Creek is 6.1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV section of whitewater. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. You might have to settle
for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. This river
system has a few good paddling stretches and the County Road 3-12 to Cheat River section is one of them. The beautiful scenery of Preston County and the water flowing gracefully down Roaring Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Briefly about the general area: A short tour to Lester Falnagan Spring is always worthwhile, and there's magnificent hiking along the Green Mountain Trail. At this river you will never have a bad time. Roaring Creek ordinarily
gets a lot of rainfall; most of the rain falls throughout July, and the driest month of the year is February. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Roaring Creek, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the duration of the winter this place
gets highs in the 30's, and night lows during the winter for Roaring Creek tend to be in the 10's. A spree to Roaring Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Kent Lambert Spring, and the Bennet Rock Trail offers hiking at its best.
