If you're coming from Morgantown it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of Preston County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The amount of rain that falls at Saltlick Creek is close to the national average; July is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is February. Throughout the days of summer at Saltlick Creek highs are frequently in the 80's while night lows are usually in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's; night lows in the 10's for Saltlick Creek.
