The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Beckley, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. You can pitch a tent     or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Dameron to confluence with Marsh Fork of Big Coal River section is the only paddling section along Sandlick Creek. This stretch of Sandlick Creek is 3.6 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: Sandlick Creek sees pretty high levels of rainfall; July is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is January. During the days of   summer at Sandlick Creek highs are ordinarily in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Sandlick Creek.
