The put-in is not too far from Morgantown, as you can see on the road map further down. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The scenic beauty of Barbour/
Taylor/ Preston County and the water flowing gracefully down Sandy Creek have people coming here. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. There's camping available near Sandy Creek. There are a few other stretches in this
river system that can be paddled as well. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: Sandy Creek is a wet location that gets a good deal of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is July, and February is when it's the driest. The warmest
time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Sandy Creek. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's typically in the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 30's with temperatures at Sandy Creek dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
