The put-in location is a short drive from Morgantown, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling     muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Bridge at Hiram to Tygart Reservoir section is one of them. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Briefly about the general area: Sandy Creek sees pretty high levels of rainfall; July is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest of the months is February. All through the days of summer at Sandy Creek highs are mostly in the 80's with night lows in the 60's.
