The Bridge at Hiram to Tygart Reservoir section of Sandy Creek is 3.3 miles long and it is classified as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come
because it is a very popular destination. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find
the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The nature scenery of Barbour/ Taylor County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
