The starting location is a short drive from Hagerstown-Martinsburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The beautiful scenery of Clarke Jefferson County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The state line to West Virginia 9 section of Shenandoah River is 11 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with
mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. There are campgrounds
quite near the river where you can camp. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here.

driest month is January. At Shenandoah River during the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Shenandoah River.
