  The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The wonderful Clarke Jefferson County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Shenandoah River beats anything. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge
    Mountains is great. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There's camping available near Shenandoah River. This section of Shenandoah River in Clarke Jefferson County is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater
as a class I-II section. The state line to West Virginia 9 section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. The put-in location is a short drive from Hagerstown-Martinsburg, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here.

Briefly about the general area:
All through the summer months highs here at Shenandoah River get into the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 60's.
 
High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Shenandoah River drop into the 10's. All the outdoors enjoyable stuff in the Blue Ridge Mountains will keep you coming back repeatedly. Shannondale Blue Sulphur Spring is a great local attraction.
Avon Bend is something you shouldn't miss since you're here at Shenandoah River, and Shannondale Red Sulphur Spring is always fun to check out. The amount of rain that falls at Shenandoah River is close to the national average; most of the rain falls through July while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
