The beautiful scenery of Jefferson County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. The put-in location is a short drive from Hagerstown-Martinsburg, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The campgrounds here at Shenandoah River are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,
either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The West Virginia 9 to Millville stretch of Shenandoah River is 3.7 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. This is a bit of a short stretch so no need to bring snacks. Getting
a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the West Virginia 9 to Millville stretch is just one of them.
Briefly about the general area: This is such a fun river. Shenandoah River is a good location of typical rain; the month with most of the rain is May while January is typically
the driest month. Throughout the long summer days at Shenandoah River temperatures are generally in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's while Shenandoah River night low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's. If
time allows, Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail is a national park worth visiting, and hiking along the Loudoun Heights Trail is brilliant fun. A visit to Wilt Farm Spring will fill your soul with wonderful feelings It's always good to stop by Johnson Springs.
