This stretch of Stony River in West Virginia is 6.7 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Cumberland, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that
around here. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The rivers for whitewater
rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.

Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 30's with temperatures at Stony River dipping down into the 10's during winter nights.
