This stretch of Tearcoat Creek in Hampshire County is 3.9 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Winchester it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Tearcoat Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The
rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room
before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. This is the only paddling stretch along Tearcoat Creek. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
Briefly about the general area: A short trip to Harding Spring is always worthwhile, and Tearcoat Creek is a place with many visitors from Winchester. Tearcoat Creek is a good place of typical precipitation; July is the
month that gets the most rain; February on the other hand is the driest. For the duration of the warm days of summer highs here at Tearcoat Creek get into the 80's, and the overnight is quite chillier of course, commonly in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Tearcoat Creek are in the 10's.
