West Virginia whitewater - Three Fork Creek, Preston/ Taylor County Preston/ Taylor county, Close to West Virginia 92 to Thornton section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-IV     12 miles   This section of Three Fork Creek is 12 miles long and it is classified as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. If you're coming from Morgantown it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day     but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside West Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. There are no other sections to paddle along Three Fork Creek than the Close to West Virginia 92 to Thornton section. Briefly about the general area: During the long summer days highs here at Three Fork Creek get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 60's. During the wintertime this place gets   highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Three Fork Creek. A journey to Three Fork Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Manacea Spring. Three Fork Creek gets a great deal of water; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month of the year is February.
