Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. at Trout Run are pretty good. The Halfmoon Trail to West Virginia 55/259 bridge stretch is the only paddling stretch along Trout Run. The put-in location is a short drive from Winchester, as you can see on the road map further down. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away
from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: A pleasant place close to Trout Run is Blue Sea Gap; don't leave Trout Run without first paying a visit to Arie Vankan Spring. High temperatures at Trout Run during the days of summer are in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's.
Highs through the winter are mostly in the 30's with temperatures at Trout Run dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. Trout Run gets a normal amount of precipitation; through the month of July you get the most rain around here while February is the month with the
least amount of precipitation. There is a glorious hiking trail close to Trout Run called the Halfmoon Lookout Trail, and the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Winfred Tharp Spring. This river is always fun. Going for a hike on the Peer Trail is always a splendid adventure.
