The starting point is not too far from Winchester, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The natural beauty of Hardy County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are no other sections to paddle along Trout Run than the Halfmoon Trail to West Virginia 55/259 bridge section. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large
number of paddling rivers. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Halfmoon Trail to West Virginia 55/259 bridge section of Trout Run in West Virginia
is 7 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summer, highs generally are in the 80's at Trout Run. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's. The winter

hiking adventure along the Halfmoon Lookout Trail, and Arie Vankan Spring is a nice local attraction. Trout Run is in the neighborhood of Blue Sea Gap which is certainly worth checking out, and do put some time aside to spend at Winfred Tharp Spring if you're here at Trout Run. This river is a wonderful place to visit. While you're here at Trout Run you can take a hike along the Peer Trail.
