The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. On this section you do get some distance,     suitable for an afternoon trip. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Above Arden to Big Cove Run section is just one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch of Tygart Valley River is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V section. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Briefly about the general area: Near Tygart Valley River you discover Moats Hollow which is a brilliant place to visit. Through the long summer days at Tygart Valley River highs are ordinarily in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's.   During the winter highs are in the 30's, and overnight lows at Tygart Valley River during the wintertime commonly sink into the 10's. Tygart Valley River usually gets a lot of rain; July is the wettest month with most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
