The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The Above Arden to Big Cove Run stretch of Tygart Valley River in Barbour County is 8 miles long and is a class III-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Above Arden to Big Cove Run section is just     one of many. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Morgantown, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. Briefly about the general area: Tygart Valley River gets a good deal of water; the month with most of the rain is July, and February is the month with the least moisture. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Tygart Valley River;   the overnight is slightly colder of course, frequently in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Tygart Valley River. A visit to Moats Hollow is always fun.
