The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Tygart Valley River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting point is not too far from Fairmont, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. This section is     quite short so no need to bring snacks. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Valley Falls to Hammond section of Tygart Valley River in Taylor/ Marion County is 1.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places.
