The Valley Falls to Hammond stretch of Tygart Valley River is 1.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come.     The put-in is not too far from Fairmont, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Valley Falls to Hammond stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The campgrounds here at Tygart Valley River are pretty good. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Tygart Valley River ordinarily tend to be in the 80's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are regularly in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the   wintertime temperatures at Tygart Valley River fall into the 10's. Tygart Valley River is a rather wet place generally with a lot of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily July, that's the one that rains the most while February is generally the driest month.
