The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Virginia is 11 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. The campgrounds here at Williams River are pretty good. You
might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Williams River throughout the summer are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. Daytime highs all through the
winter are in the 30's, and night lows in the 10's for Williams River. The high level of rainfall makes Williams River a rather wet place; through the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is October. On a good day at Williams River you can take a hike along the County Line Trail, and the Big Beechy Trail is a perfect hiking trail close by.
