The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The Three Forks of Williams to Gauley River stretch of Williams River in West Virginia is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this
area has a large number of paddling places. The campgrounds here at Williams River are pretty good. The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your
time, so pack your camp stove. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the warm days of summer, highs regularly are in the 80's at Williams River with night lows in the 60's. For the duration of the wintertime the highs are typically in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Williams River. The Snakeden Trail is a great hiking trail
near Williams River. Near Williams River you come across the Lick Branch Trail which is a great hiking trail, and Hickman Hollow is another nice location to pop by nearby. All the water falling down from the sky makes Williams River a wet place; the wettest month of the year is typically July, that's the one that rains the most; January meanwhile is the driest month.
