The natural beauty of Sauk County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The starting point is not too far from Baraboo, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
The Highway 12 to Highway 113 section of Baraboo River is 4.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I(II) section of whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one
day paddling trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. There are no other sections to paddle along Baraboo River than the Highway 12 to Highway 113 section.
