Wisconsin whitewater - Baraboo River, Sauk County Sauk county, Highway 12 to Highway 113 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I(II)     4.5 miles   The Highway 12 to Highway 113 stretch of Baraboo River in Sauk County is 4.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I(II) section. The beautiful scenery of Wisconsin and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. If you're coming from Baraboo it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is the only paddling stretch along Baraboo River. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Wisconsin     are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other places. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Briefly about the general area: The yearly rain here at Baraboo River is about average; most of the rain falls during August, and February is the month with the least moisture. Going for a hike on the Bluff Trail is always a great adventure, and you can go for a hike on the West Bluff Trail. All through the months of summer at Baraboo River highs are typically in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to   the 50's. Through the winter the highs are typically in the 20's while Baraboo River overnight low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 0's.
