The Hatfield Dam to Power Plant section of Black River is 3.2 miles long and is a class II-III(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Wisconsin is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The wonderful Wisconsin scenery and the cool fresh water beats anything. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The campgrounds here
at Black River are pretty good. The Hatfield Dam to Power Plant stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. This stretch is short so you'd
better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summer, highs typically are in the 80's at Black River while night lows are generally in the 50's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 10's, and nighttime lows at Black River through the winter usually fall into the-10's. Why not visit Lower Backwater also while you're here.
