If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The natural beauty of Ashland County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance
you're all set. This section of Chippewa River - East Fork is 21.6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. There are a few other sections in this
river system that can be paddled as well. The beauty of the Gogebic Range is a great plus for this river. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more.
