Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Wisconsin is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. The Government Road to Bad River section of Marengo River in Ashland County is 4.8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. There     are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The Gogebic Range scenery is wonderful. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Briefly about the general area: Throughout the warmest time of the year at Marengo River highs are regularly in the 80's. Summer night lows plunge down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Marengo River are in the 0's.
