This river has nearly 70 miles of river that can be paddled. It goes all the way from the Hayward landing to the Riverside landing after it joins the St Croix River. This river could easily be made into a 3-4 night paddle. It has quite a few canoe campsites and also access to freshwater at several landings. so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The natural beauty of Wisconsin and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Hayward River Campground to Springbrook Landing section of Namekagon River in
Sawyer/Washburn County is 15.4 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. There are no other stretches to paddle along Namekagon River than the Hayward River Campground to Springbrook Landing stretch. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around here. You
might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The campgrounds here at Namekagon River are pretty good.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the
warm days of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Namekagon River. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 20's, and night lows all through the wintertime for Namekagon River tend to be in the-10's.
Namekagon River gets a typical amount of rain; the wettest month of the year is generally August, that's the one that rains the most; February is the month with the least moisture.
