The wonderful Wisconsin scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The Petrifying Springs to Lathrop stretch of Pike River in Kenosha County is 4.8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I(II) section. The starting point is not too far from Racine, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. No shortage of good hotels,
but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and
some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. There are no other sections to paddle along Pike River than the Petrifying Springs to Lathrop section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Pike River through the months of summer are in the 70's. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Pike River. Pike River gets a common amount of yearly rainfall; the month with most of the rain is August, and February is the month with the least moisture.
