This stretch of Potato River in Iron/Ashland County is 6.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV(V) section. When you're paddling down a Gogebic Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make     reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Highway 169 to Potato River Road stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Wisconsin is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more.
