This section of Potato River in Iron/Ashland County is 6.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV(V) section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Wisconsin scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Wisconsin you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people
coming from far and near. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater paddling here in the Gogebic Range is a great experience. Some people
prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. The Highway 169 to Potato River Road section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.

the winter mostly drop into the 0's. A common amount of rainfall falls here at Potato River; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture. A short trip to Potato River Falls is always worthwhile.
