Wisconsin whitewater - Prairie River, Lincoln County Lincoln county, Haymeadow Creek to Prairie Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II     3.9 miles   This stretch of Prairie River is 3.9 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Wisconsin scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Prairie River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Haymeadow Creek to Prairie Road stretch is the only one. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations     you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. If you're coming from Merrill it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Briefly about the general area: Prairie River is a good place of normal precipitation; September is when you get the most rain here, and February is when it's the driest. Through the summertime months, highs ordinarily are in the 70's at Prairie River. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's.
