  If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The Haymeadow Creek to Prairie Road section of Prairie River is 3.9 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. The natural beauty of Lincoln County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.
    Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Merrill, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing
to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Prairie River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Haymeadow Creek to Prairie Road stretch is the only one. There's camping available near Prairie River.

Briefly about the general area:
From a rainfall point of view Prairie River is a rather normal spot; the month of September is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is February.
The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Prairie River. During the
 
moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 10's; night lows at Prairie River during the winter usually sink into the-10's.
