  This section of Prairie River is 3.9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. The natural beauty of Wisconsin and the water flowing gracefully down Prairie River beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The put-in is not too far from Merrill, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You might
    have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. This is the only paddling stretch along Prairie
River. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. There's camping available near Prairie River.

Briefly about the general area:
Prairie River gets a common amount of precipitation; throughout the month of September you get the most rain around here while February is regularly the driest month. For the period of the warm days of summer at Prairie River highs are frequently in the 70's.
 
Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 10's while Prairie River nighttime low temperatures throughout the winter are in the-10's.
