This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. This section     of Red River is 4.3 miles long and is a class I-II(III) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Lower Red Lake Dam section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The nature scenery of Shawano County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Red River through the warmest time of the year are in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 20's with temperatures at Red River dipping down into the-10's through winter nights. Red River gets a normal amount of rain; September   is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is January. It's always splendid to stop at Freeman Falls, and Gilmer Falls is a splendid local attraction.
