The put-in is not too far from Marinette, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Wisconsin is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The natural beauty of Marinette County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Thunder River doesn't have a lot of     paddling sections, the Veteran's Park section is the only one. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
