Water levels must be high to do the Upper Totogatic. Otherwise you'll be dragging your canoe over rocks. But it's very wild and remote. The scenic beauty of Washburn County and the water flowing gracefully down Totogatic River have people coming here. This section of Totogatic River in Washburn County is 8.9 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The rivers
    for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Wisconsin are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve
in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other spots. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is the only paddling stretch along Totogatic River.

During the warm days of summer at Totogatic River temperatures are generally in the 80's. Summer overnight lows plunge
 
down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Totogatic River. Totogatic River is a good place of typical precipitation; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
