If you're coming from Baraboo it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is the only paddling stretch along Wisconsin River. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This is a very short stretch so you'd better     be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Prairie du Sac stretch of Wisconsin River in Sauk County is 0.1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: Wisconsin River is right by the Grottos Trail. A common amount of rainfall falls here at Wisconsin River; August is when you get the most rain here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Wisconsin River with overnight lows in the 50's.
