Wisconsin whitewater - Wolf River, Menominee County
Menominee
county,
Otter Slide to Big Smokey Falls section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III(IV) 5.7 miles
I went rafting there two days ago and I had SO much fun! One rapid, called lower Dells, has cliffs on both sides and we jumped of them. If you jump make sure to jump far out (I hit my knee on a rock) and face toward the light green trees when you are jumping from the right side (when you are facing the rapids) Also, it is fun to swim Dave's Wave which is the second half of the lower Duck's Nest. Make sure to go down Big Smokey! And then pull your raft to the side of the river and go under the waterfall!! So much fun! The only bad thing was the water level
was low... so we got pretty scraped up on the rocks. Says
We are planning a trip for 8/4/7 Are we dragging the rafts? I really need an honest answer from someone who hasd been there lately...email-redson@madison.k12.wi.us Says Ruth Edson
I just recently went down
the otter slide with my wife and some friends. We had a blast, the water was kind of cold in the begining but you get use to it quick. My favorite part is near the end of the trip you go threw a stretch that has huge rock walls on each side with pretty good rapids then it opens to a big swimming hole. There are rock walls on one side it looks very tempting to jump off of the walls wich if I had to guess go up about 40 feet. But let me be the first to tell you dont jump I did and broke my ankle. Me and my buddy jumped side by side at the same time he is
fine Im not I hit rocks under the water. So dont be stupid like me and jump kinda wrecks the last fall witch is by far the best one. Says Kasey

Whitewater. The wonderful Menominee County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Otter Slide to Big Smokey Falls section is just one of many. On this section you do get
some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Wisconsin are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're
willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this
is an area with plenty of spots for that.
Briefly about the general area: The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Trip Rapids, and great hiking is available along the Popple Ridge Snowmobile Trail. Big Smoky Falls is an inspiring place to go to during your stay.
