Wyoming whitewater - Clear Creek, Johnson County Johnson county, 2 miles above to 1/2 mile below Buffalo section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     2 miles   The 2 miles above to 1/2 mile below Buffalo stretch of Clear Creek is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The wonderful Johnson County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Clear Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. This is one     of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. There are some good hotels near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Clear Creek gets very little rain; May is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. At Clear Creek all through the summer highs are in the 80's. Summer   overnight lows fall down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's, and overnight lows at Clear Creek throughout the winter typically plunge into the 0's.
