Wyoming whitewater - Deer Creek, Laramie Mountains, Converse County
Converse
county,
Lower Canyon section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V+ 6 miles
The scenic beauty of Converse County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Lower Canyon stretch of Deer Creek is 6 miles long and is a class IV-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other places for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river
if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Wyoming you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of
the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The beautiful Laramie Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.
