Wyoming whitewater - Gros Ventre River, Wind River Range, Teton County Teton county, Lower Slide Lake to Kelly section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-IV     5 miles   If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. This section of Gros Ventre River is 5 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Teton County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You might     have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is the only paddling section along Gros Ventre River. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Jackson, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other spots. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Wind River Range scenery is wonderful. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Gros Ventre River throughout the summer months are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 40's. Highs   during the wintertime are ordinarily in the 20's, and nighttime lows at Gros Ventre River during the winter frequently descend into the-10's. Gros Ventre River gets very little precipitation; January is the month that gets the most snow while July is usually the driest month.
