The Highway 181 bridge to Sinks Cavern section of Middle Popo Agie River is 5.6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. The average Wyoming whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The wonderful Fremont County scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The Highway
181 bridge to Sinks Cavern stretch is the only paddling stretch along Middle Popo Agie River. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The wild scenery of the Wind River Range is great. The starting point is not too far from Riverton, as you can see on the road
map further down. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: It is very dried out here at Middle Popo Agie River generally; the wettest month of the year is regularly May, that's the one that rains the most, and January is when it's the driest. Don't leave Middle Popo Agie River without first paying a visit to Deer Spring, and Middle Popo Agie River is near Sinks Canyon which is
beyond doubt worth visiting. And if that's not sufficient there's lots more amusing stuff to do in the Wind River Range. Near Middle Popo Agie River you discover the Wolf Trail which is a pleasant hiking trail; going for a hike on the Indian Trail is always a splendid adventure.
Through the months of summer highs here at Middle Popo Agie River get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Middle Popo Agie River. Lots of fun awaits you along this river.
