Wyoming whitewater, Middle Popo Agie River

Fremont county, Highway 181 bridge to Sinks Cavern section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-V     5.6 miles
The Highway 181 bridge to Sinks Cavern section of Middle Popo Agie River is 5.6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V section. The nature scenery of Fremont County and the cool fresh water beats anything. If you're coming from Riverton it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. There arenít any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive
a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. No matter if you're whitewater rafting
or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. The river winds through the Wind River Range and you get great scenery. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Wyoming is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners.
A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.

Briefly about the general area:
Deer Spring is a good local attraction, and a tremendous spot to pop by nearby is Sinks Canyon. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun stuff in the Wind River Range. On a magnificent day at Middle Popo Agie River you can take a hike along the Wolf Trail, and Sinks Canyon State Park is a charming location any time of year. This is such a wonderful river. The Indian Trail is a delightful hiking trail in the vicinity of Middle Popo Agie River.
