The beautiful scenery of Wyoming and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other spots. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The campgrounds here at Shell Creek are pretty good. Getting your
paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not
very forgiving. This stretch of Shell Creek in Wyoming is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-V section. Shell Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Cabin Creek to Forest Service boundary section is the only one. Whitewater paddling here in the Bighorn Mountains is a great experience.
Briefly about the general area: At this river you will always have a good time. The Dry Horse Trail offers hiking at its best. A short journey to Barrel Spring is always worthwhile, and obviously, A tour to Corral Gulch
is always fun. Shell Creek is pretty arid commonly; the month with most of the rain is June, and February on the other hand is the driest. Summertime highs at Shell Creek regularly tend to be in the 60's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 30's. Highs during the
winter are commonly in the 20's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Shell Creek temperatures drop to the 0's. Whohoo, so many fun things in one place! The Bighorn Mountains is great! A spree to Shell Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Shell Falls, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Shell Creek; Bench Trail is a nice local trail.
