Wyoming whitewater - Shoshone River, Absaroka Range, Park County

Park county, Buffalo Bill Dam to Highway 120 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-V     8.1 miles
The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The nature scenery of Wyoming and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch of Shoshone River in Park County is 8.1 miles long and is a class II-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are
not so many other good spots for that around here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. When you're paddling down a Absaroka Range river like this one you always get great
scenery along the way too. There are no other sections to paddle along Shoshone River than the Buffalo Bill Dam to Highway 120 section. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip.
