The South Park Bridge to Astoria Bridge section of Snake River in Wyoming is 9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The wonderful Wyoming scenery and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Jackson, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The rivers for whitewater rafting
and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the
great campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. The South Park Bridge to Astoria Bridge stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came.
Briefly about the general area: A splendid place right next door to Snake River is Bohnetts Canyon. Around Snake River you don’t get a lot of rainfall; May is when you get the most rain here; the driest of the months is August.
For the duration of the warm days of summer at Snake River highs are typically in the 70's. Through the moonlight hours it's usually in the 40's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's with temperatures at Snake River dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
