Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Wyoming is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Highway 16 to Bottom of Switchbacks section is the only paddling section along Tensleep Creek. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Highway 16     to Bottom of Switchbacks stretch of Tensleep Creek in Wyoming is 2.4 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The Bighorn Mountains scenery is wonderful. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. Briefly about the general area: Tensleep Creek is pretty arid frequently; June is when you get the most rain here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 60's to Tensleep Creek, and the overnight is somewhat colder of course, generally in the 30's. Highs during the winter are usually in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Tensleep Creek.
