Wyoming whitewater - Tensleep Creek, Bighorn Mountains, Washakie County Washakie county, Highway 16 to Bottom of Switchbacks section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS V+     2.4 miles   This stretch of Tensleep Creek in Washakie County is 2.4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Wyoming you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The nature scenery of Washakie County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The Highway 16 to Bottom of Switchbacks stretch is the only paddling stretch along Tensleep Creek. There aren’t     any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The beautiful Bighorn Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Briefly about the general area: The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Big Horn Ski. Tensleep Creek is a location that is relatively dried out generally; of all the months in a year June is the one with the   most rain; the driest of the months is February. All through the summer months at Tensleep Creek highs are ordinarily in the 60's. During the moonlight hours it's generally in the 30's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's, and nighttime lows in the 0's for Tensleep Creek.
