  The Sheep Creek to Tongue Canyon trailhead stretch of Tongue River in Sheridan County is 2.34 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Wyoming you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The wonderful Sheridan County scenery and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. The nearby hotels
    are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back
for more. This is the only paddling section along Tongue River. The starting point is not too far from Sheridan, as you can see on the road map further down.

Briefly about the general area:
Around Tongue River you don’t get a lot of precipitation; May is the month that gets the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Needles Eye is an attention-grabbing place to pop by while at Tongue River, and a perfect site nearby is Tongue Canyon.
Going for a hike along the Wolf Creek Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this
 
region, and Antelope Butte is a very popular ski area close at hand. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. At Tongue River through the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. For the period of the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 30's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Tongue River temperatures descend to the 0's.
